Upigaji kura ulitarajiwa kuanza saa 12 asubuhi na kumaliza saa 10 jioni, lakini vituo vya kupigia kura katika mji mkuu Bujumbura vilichelewa kufunguliwa kutokana na suala la usalama.
Zoezi hilo lilifanyika kote nchini Burundi bila kutokea matukio makubwa. Hata hivyo, mtu asiyejulikana alilipua bomu la guruneti karibu na kituo cha kupigia kura huko Kibago mkoani Makamba, kusini mwa nchi hiyo. Lakini baada ya dakika kadhaa raia walirudi na upigaji kura kuendelea kama kawaida
