Rais Robert Mugabe wa Zimbabwe ametimiza umri wa miaka 92 huku chama chake kikisema atawania tena urais 2018.
Mnadhimu
wake mkuu alisema kiongozi huyo ambaye ameongoza nchi tangu mwaka 1980,
bado ana uwezo kamili wa kuongoza Serikali licha ya tetesi kwamba
hawezi kuongoza kutokana na umri.
Akizungumza na gazeti la
Serikali Sunday Mail, Katibu Mkuu wa Rais Misheck Sibanda alisema tetesi
hizo si za kweli na hazina msingi kwani Mugabe ana ratiba ya wiki nzima kutekeleza kazi za Serikali na chama.
Rais Mugabe ambaye aliapa
kuongoza nchi hadi atakapokufa, alishinda kipindi kingine cha urais cha
miaka mitano kwenye uchaguzi wa mwaka 2013 uliofanyika chini ya katiba
mpya inayoweka ukomo wa kuongoza kwa vipindi viwili tu vya miaka mitano.
Chama chake tayari kimetangaza kumpitisha Mugabe kama mgombea urais katika uchaguzi wa mwaka 2018.
Mugabe
amekua kiongozi wa Zimbabwe tangu 1980. Ni mwenyekiti wa chama tawala
cha Zanu. 1980 alikuwa waziri mkuu na 1987 Rais wa Zimbabwe.
Utawala wa Mugabe umeitwa wa kidikteta tangu mwaka 2002 kutokana na kudharau haki za binadamu nchi Zimbabwe.
